PERRY FARRELL Calls Attorney General WILLIAM BARR A 'Scoundrel' And A 'Wretched Individual'
April 21, 2019JANE'S ADDICTION frontman Perry Farrell has called Attorney General William Barr a "scoundrel" and a "wretched individual."
On Thursday (April 18),Farrell tweeted a photo showing Barr with a hand-drawn moustache and wearing glasses with one lens blacked out. He wrote in an accompanying message: "Promised I wouldn't watch the morning's news for a while, but the gall that this wretched individual offer up is as tempting to me as an airport Cinabun. I broke down. 1 thing we did learn though: There isn't a greater scoundrel; a truer Pirate Punk Politician than William BAarr!"
"Pirate Punk Politician" is the title of Farrell's recently released single. The track, which he previously described as "a good old-fashioned protest song," will appear on his upcoming album, "Kind Heaven", due out June 7 via BMG.
After one conservative Twitter user claimed Farrell received "major backlash from his fans" for calling Barr a "scoundrel" and a "pirate punk politician," Perry responded: "Dude, This tweet is misleading.. It's true I received some backlash- but not from my 'fans' (please refer to them as patrons- as they are a little friendlier to me). My patrons happen to be super liberal humanitarian subculturalists who know a good portrayal when they see one..."
Farrell's remarks came after Barr finally released special counsel Robert Mueller's long-anticipated Trump-Russia report on Thursday, reasserting his position that the special counsel found no evidence of collusion or the basis for an obstruction of justice charge. But most experts believe that the actual substance of the report is far more damning than what summaries from Barr, in a four-page letter to Congress in March and in a short press conference Thursday morning, suggested.
Last November, Farrell told the San Francisco Chronicle that he finds himself having "to disappear sometimes" because he "almost can't take" the disturbing news content we are fed on a daily basis.
"We're living through this awful, depressing news cycle," he said. "I'm a newshound, and I watch the news religiously. I'm trying so hard to do this ['Kind Heaven'] project and staying in touch with that, and then I've got my kids. But the news really sets me over the edge. I'm hearing these terrible things every damn day. It really wipes me out, man. I'm not kidding. I ducked out."
In a recent interview with the Z93 radio station, Farrell stated about the inspiration for "Pirate Punk Politician": "Well, we're protesting autocracy. We're protesting strongmen that have come up around the world that are fascists and bigots and racists and ignorant of the state of the world and, in particular, the environment and the health of Mother Earth. We want to raise the consciousness of the voters around the world, just so that they understand that there is a way out of this tangled mess that we've gotten ourselves into. The world is getting so polluted and taken over by people that just think that they are above the law and can do whatever they want and they are just ripping off the people — they are ripping off the people that are the working class. That's what we're protesting against."
